Whats with negative comments like this and others in this thread.
Personally I've found that most guilds have capes and therefore both my characters remain guild-less.
I hate the look of the capes, the way the warp in and out of my weapons and armor, they simply look odd on some characters like most the female ones.
PLEASE A.net, if you really are reading this... just us a Toggle option, its been requested so many times.

I think this is a stupid argument because a lot of people like the capes. They just don't want them ALL THE TIME. A simple toggle would solve this.
Or do you seriously expect us to quit and rejoin everytime we want it on or off?
Also I'm not going to leave my awesome guild because my character looks goofy with their cape, no more than I'll join a guild just because it doesn't use capes. That's retarded.

I think it's those seemingly "easy things" that don't get programmed into the game.
There's another thread about the mini-map.
People agree that it's easy to do, but what the heck do we know?
And how do we know Anet is reading this forum?

They've mentioned several times that they read the forums they link to on their site, this being one of them.

FOR GOD'S SAKE GIVE ME A TOGGLE OPTION...please?
I get so INSANELY annoyed when I see my cape going through that one section of my druid's coat. I mean...just that one little section of it gets so annoying---gah! I could die because of it.
And I love my guild---but I HATE our cape. I don't mind wearing it every now and then, but I really...really want to be able to take it off.
Badly.

Well we don't, how they go about programming the code and adding in things no one here can say. They may have special development tools to help.
However some of the ideas posted on this forum are "easy" in the sense of the size and scale of implementing them.
As a programmer, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't take too long to allow capes to be toggelable in some manner... all the need is a few rules however:
- Capes are toggleable, but capes will be forced show in the following situations:
1. During GvG battles (Ranked or Unranked)
2. While inside you Guild Hall.
3. When you are allied with the leader of your guild in a party.

I don't see the point of this one. I want to be able to hang out with my guild without having to wear that dinky cape all the time. If the fact that the leader is there forces me to use it it kind of defeats the whole purpose of having a choice.
Just keep it for when its absolutely necessary: PvP, period.

Toggle capes plzzzzzzzz. Sure have them forces in GvG but anywhere else they are simple not needed, they may look cool in some peoples eyes, but in others they look naff. The option to toggle on or off.

Making them toggleable would be a good step in the right direction.
Forcing anyone in a guild to wear them is simply like forcing everyone in the game to wear a silly hat or something.
Some think it looks cool, for example on Male Warriors it they do. For others (Like many in this thread) it looks daft... and not everyone should be forced to wear one while being in a guild with good friends.

I don't think they should be forced to be on when partying with your guild leader.
Why? I'm the leader of my guild, and I hate capes, as does everyone else in my guild. We all want a guild hall though, and it is required to have a cape to get a guild hall. This means that I have to get a damn cape and none of us are happy about it. I've been trying to contact ANet about it, but their customer support sucks for stuff like this, I fully addressed the fact that there were multiple threads discussing this and that I wanted to just make them aware of this. Then they sent me back a reply saying that I should post my suggestions on a fansite forum..... >.< So helpful, eh?
Anyways, either make guild capes not required to get a guild hall, or make guild capes toggleable when outside of PvP. That's the bottom line, and that is definately how it should be. I see no reason why capes shouldn't be toggleable. It also seems by majority of the people here that it is agreed that it is a good idea.

I would agree ... a toggle option would be a nifty feature to help customize your toon.
I also agree that it should be mandatory in guild vs guild battles and when in your guild hall. After all your guild hall is your kingdom ... well more like a beefed up mercenary hideout. But I agree 100% with this. It would be cool to see people with out there capes on all the time. I mean ... it would also make wearing them ... that much more appealing like your going off to war. grrrrr *flexes*

Rather than toggling capes on or off, I have a better suggestion:
Toggle the cape on or off just for YOURSELF.
Your guild doesn't need to know you turned off the cape for youself. This is a way to identify OTHERS, not specifically to identify yourself.
So what if others see the cape. It wont' raise static with your guild mates since you won't be going around capeless, what some people might consider an affront to the group.
Perception is the key here. If you perceive yourself as walking around without a cape, then you're happy because you look the way they do, and your guild is happy since you still have the cape on in their eyes, which is pleasing for guild unity. No harm, no foul, nobody gets hurt.

1. Being in a guild isn't like being married. Also as evidenced by this thread, people don' t want to have their capes shown all the time. It's more like taking off your work uniform/clothes when you are done working or when you get home.
2. What if they change their minds?
3. That defeats the point of being in the guild.
Try thinking things though a little more next time.
I saw someone mention that you need capes to get a guild hall, I would hope that Anet removes that requirement from the game. Not all guild like capes.

I like the idea of a toggle option with it mandatory on for PvP Guild battles. Give guild solidarity and all that.

definately a toggle for Cape on...Cape off
also...1 k for the teensy weensy little waist high capes, they look cute on little characters, huge warrior boys and girls in short clothes, but please...
2 k for a full length, shin height lovely, or better yet, ankle length i want a cape that looks like that, it should move in the breeze or when i move, and it should float behind me like silk, or else what point is being my guilds Reverend Mother? :P i need to strut if i am wearing a cape, and the teensy ones dont do that for me...they look like childrens capes on some of us....>.<
and yeah, 3 k for an option that alows each guild memeber to ether have long, short cape or shield/chestplate emblem...or, tabard, in the same style/emblam of their guild, like the crusaders used to wear...they dont look That bad, even with nothing on underneth
